The Helford and Fal Estuaries falls into the recently identified Fal and Helford Special Area of Conservation (SAC) which is complex, ranging from exposed to sheltered marine habitats.
It qualifies in respect of the following habitats:-
Special Areas of Conservation (SACs) are strictly protected sites designated under the EC Habitats Directive.
They are areas which have been given special protection under the European Union’s Habitats Directive. They provide increased protection to a variety of wild animals, plants and habitats and are a vital part of global efforts to conserve the world’s biodiversity.
