Cornwall Tourism Awards success for Fal River and Partners

Fal River Visitor Information Centre grabs a Silver award with Fal River Partners also successful in the 2012 Cornwall Tourism Awards.

The Fal River cemented its status as being Cornwall's most popular visitor destination with success across the board at the 2012 Cornwall Tourism Awards.

The Cornwall Tourism Awards span 16 categories to recognise excellence across the travel and tourism industry in the county and organisation based around the Fal River were successful in seven of these categories.

Leading the way with a Silver Award for Tourist Information Service of the Year was the Fal River Visitor Information Centre based on Falmouth's Prince of Wales Pier.

The Centre, which provides vital links between visitors, the local community and the local economy, reopened in the summer of 2011 and continues to move from strength to strength.

Centre Manager, Nicola Kneebone, said: 'This is a fantastic achievement for Fal River and the partnerships we've made along the way! It certainly wouldn't be possible without the passion that is behind the service we provide, the genuinely lovely place we live in and people that we're very grateful to work with.

'The support from Falmouth Town Council, Falmouth BID and Visit Cornwall has enabled us to maintain the highest levels of customer service and enhance the visitor experience.

'Special thanks must got to the fabulous members of staff who have worked incredibly hard this year on behalf of Falmouth and our amazing volunteers who give up their own time to help other people see the true beauty of our outstanding local area.'

Partner success

Fal River Cornwall, of which the Visitor Centre is part of, is one of the country's largest and most successful private sector led destination marketing partnerships and many of Fal River's Partners were also successful.

The National Maritime Museum Cornwall, in Falmouth, won Gold in the Large Visitor Attraction of the Year category; Trethem Mill Touring Park, in St Just in Roseland, won Gold in the Caravan, Camping, and Holiday Park and Village category; St Michael's Hotel and Spa, in Falmouth, won Bronze in the Large Hotel of the Year category; Bosinver Farm Cottages won Gold in the Large Self Catering Establishment of the Year category; Trenython Manor Hotel & Spa won Silver in the Wildlife Friendly Business category and the Pandora Inn, in Mylor, was named Pub of the Year.

Claire Wood, from Fal River, said: 'It's great to see so many of our partners from a wide range of sectors getting the recognition they deserve.

'We're incredibly lucky to work with so many fantastic people who all do a wonderful job of making sure this part of Cornwall is a "must see" on any visitors to do list.'

Nicola added: ''We'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved and we're delighted to be recognised for the hard work that goes into ensuring our visitors have a great service and a reason to return.'
