The castle overlooks the mouth of the Fal River and is steeped in history. Orignally one of Henry VIII's coastal fortresses, St Mawes castle, along with Pendennis castle once protected the Carrick Roads.

Now a days the castle is open to visitors to explore the iconic history this gem possesses.

1. Park and Float to Falmouth

2. Take the St Mawes Ferry

Hop aboard one of our beautiful classic wooden ferries from Custom House Quay or Prince of Wales Pier in Falmouth...


Use your Fal Mussel Card Visitor and cruise across the Fal River in stlye.

Along the way, enjoy the panoramic views of the Carrick Roads and see the fortresses guarding the roads.

You'll also be able to the working docks at Falmouth and if you're lucky, some Dolphins and sea birds.

3. Explore St Mawes Castle

Start exploring the castle...


Take a short walk from the quay in St Mawes up to the castle.

Soak up the rich history of the castle with it's informative audio tour and learn about Henry VIII's fortress to protect the Carrick Roads.

The castle is open in the summer time everyday apart from Saturdays.

4. Get some lunch

5. Return to Falmouth

Head for home...


Stroll back to the ferry and head back home.

Simply head back down to St Mawes Quay, take the St Mawes Ferry back to Falmouth Custom House Quay, and take the park and float/ride boat/bus back to Ponsharden car park.
